Assessment Review Team – Summary of Meeting #2

The second meeting of the CCPS Assessment Review Team was held on Tuesday, October 21, 2014. The meeting was well attended by parents, teachers, building level administrators, and central office personnel.

The team reviewed feedback from its initial meeting which helped to identify areas of focus. A positive outcome from the initial assessment review team meeting was the development and implementation of a division wide benchmark reflection process, which was shared with the group. This process outlines expectations for using benchmark assessments to improve instruction.

Additional discussion centered on how best to communicate the message to the community that assessments are used by teachers to help individualize instruction for every student. The Assessment Review Team will reconvene on November 17 at the School Board Office at 4:15 p.m.

Parents, teachers, staff, and community members who have suggestions or concerns they would like for the assessment team to consider are asked to put them in writing. Please send them to Dr. Daryl Chesley, Director of Secondary Curriculum and Instruction ( or Mrs. Kathleen F. Beane, Director of Elementary Curriculum and Instruction (

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) has been made aware that many school personnel have questions about what education professionals can do to keep students and adults safe from the Ebola virus. At the current time, there are no cases of Ebola in Virginia. Our national health system has the capacity and expertise to quickly detect and contain this disease and is working with states and school districts to ensure the safety of our students and school employees. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is our primary source of information on Ebola. Current information may be found at the CDC Web site:
