Caroline County Assistant Superintendent Rebecca Broaddus To Retire

Superintendent George Parker has announced the retirement of Dr. Rebecca Broaddus as Assistant Superintendent of Caroline County Public Schools and as Clerk of the Caroline County School Board effective June 30, 2016.

“Dr. Broaddus has served this school system well for 39 years and we owe much of Caroline County’s success to her valuable contributions and her steadfast commitment to the children of this community,” said Superintendent Parker. “We will miss her very much, but wish her well as she begins a new chapter.”

“Dr. Broaddus dedicated most of her life to education, all in Caroline County,” said School Board Chairman George Spaulding. “While she was in the Central Office, she wore many hats and did a great job with all of them. She was very loyal to our school system. While her announcement was quite a surprise to the Board, we wish her all the best in her retirement and know we can always call on her.”

Caroline County Public Schools previous Superintendent, Dr. Gregory Killough commented, “When you bring up the name Dr. Rebecca Broaddus, you bring up the perfect representation of Caroline County. She is a classy, professional and dedicated lady. She is an individual who loves her community, the children in her community and she personifies a gracious spirit. You know your life has been touched in a very special way when you work with Dr. Broaddus.”

Dr. Broaddus began her teaching career at Caroline Middle School in August of 1977 where she taught for 15 years. She served as assistant principal at Caroline Middle School for 4 years before being appointed as principal of Bowling Green Primary where she remained for 2 years. She served as the the Director of Special Programs for 10 years. Dr. Broaddus was appointed Assistant Superintendent of Caroline County Public Schools in 2008.

Additionally, Dr. Broaddus served as acting Superintendent during the spring of 2015 while the School Board completed a search for a new superintendent. During that time, she oversaw the budget process and negotiated with the Board of Supervisors on the FY 2016 budget.

During her tenure, Dr. Broaddus had many significant accomplishments that moved Caroline County Public Schools forward, including the revamping of the teacher mentoring process and handbook, and the development of and training for the teacher performance evaluation system currently in use. She also oversaw the development and implementation of the school division’s strategic plan as well as the school division’s instructional program. Dr. Broaddus was instrumental in the planning and opening of the new Lewis and Clark Elementary School.

Dr. Broaddus will be honored for her contributions and service to the school division at the upcoming employee retirement ceremony on April 28, 2016.
