Caroline County School Board Appoints New Superintendent

The Caroline County Public School Board will recognize Sarah B. Calveric, Ph.D. as the next Superintendent of Caroline County Public Schools at its regularly scheduled meeting on December 10, 2018. Dr. Calveric has served as the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction for CCPS since 2016.
School Board Chairman, George Spaulding stated, “I am honored to have worked with my fellow School Board members in selecting Dr. Calveric to be our next superintendent. Dr. Calveric’s experience as an educator and her extensive leadership across many aspects of Caroline County Public Schools as Assistant Superintendent of Instruction will enhance her success in guiding CCPS to even greater achievement. When Dr. Calveric began employment with CCPS in 2016, she charted a course with the instructional leadership team that resulted in CCPS schools moving from 40% fully accredited to 80% fully accredited in two years. I believe she will capitalize on previously established student and staff relationships while simultaneously forging new, collaborative partnerships with the greater Caroline community. I look forward to continuing to work with Dr. Calveric in this new capacity and am excited for the energy, knowledge, and expertise she brings to the position.”
Dr. Calveric began her career in Hanover County Public Schools in 1997, where she served as a special and general education teacher at the elementary and middle school levels. In 2002, she began her 11-year career as an elementary assistant principal and principal. In 2013, Dr. Calveric was named Director of Human Resources for Spotsylvania County Public Schools, where she worked collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to oversee leadership development, mentoring, recruiting and retention, feedback and evaluation, human relations, employee wellness, and numerous interdepartmental projects. As Assistant Superintendent of Instruction, Dr. Calveric has been instrumental in the development of Caroline’s five-year strategic plan, Pathways 2022, the crafting of the CCPS K-12 Profile of a Graduate, recruiting and retention efforts, leadership development, and numerous instructional initiatives such as increased school accreditation, the 1:1 Chromebook initiative, professional development, program analysis and development, and resource acquisition and allocation. Dr. Calveric also serves as an adjunct associate professor at University of Richmond, where she teaches Data for Decision Making to aspiring educational leaders. She is also a member of the VASCD Board of Directors as the Region III representative.
Dr. Calveric holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary and Special Education from the State University of New York at Geneseo, a Master’s Degree in Administration and Supervision from Virginia Commonwealth University, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University.
