Caroline Middle School Principal Announced for CCPS
Mr. Darin Thompson was named the new principal of Caroline Middle School at the special called Caroline County School Board meeting on July 24, 2019.
Mr. Thompson graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. He has a Master’s of Science Degree from VCU in Public Administration and a Master’s of Science Degree from Regent in Educational Leadership. Mr. Thompson served in Richmond Public Schools as Principal and Assistant Principal. He most recently served as an Associate Principal in Chesterfield County Public Schools during the 2018-19 school year.
Mr. Thompson’s strengths of building relationships, collaborating with parents, staff, and students, and creating a culture of excellence drive his daily decisions and practices. Principal Thompson’s areas of expertise are student engagement, special education, instructional leadership, and equity.

Madison Elementary Assistant Principal Announced for CCPS
Mrs. Lindsey Rose was named the new assistant principal of Madison Elementary School at the special called Caroline County School Board meeting on July 24, 2019.
Mrs. Rose graduated from Radford University with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Social Science. She has a Master’s Degree from the University of Mary Washington with a Gifted endorsement. Mrs. Rose is a graduate from Longwood University where she earned an endorsement in Educational Leadership.
Lindsey Rose has been with Caroline County Public Schools since 2005. Most recently, she was the division K-12 History/Science Instructional Specialist. Prior to this appointment, Mrs. Rose was a CCPS Gifted Specialist for 6 years. Mrs. Rose has also served as a history teacher with Caroline for 7 years. During Mrs. Rose’s tenure, she embraced a number of additional leadership roles including CMS ACE Coordinator, Governor’s School Coordinator, Assistant Testing Coordinator, History Department Chair, and Instructional Leadership Team.

Supervisor of Federal Programs Announced for CCPS
Mrs. Andrea Ross was named the new Supervisor of Federal Programs at the special called Caroline County School Board meeting on July 24, 2019.
Mrs. Ross graduated from State University of New York at Fredonia with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics. She has a Master’s of Science Degree in Instruction from Central Michigan University. She also has an Educational Specialist Degree with a concentration in Administration/Supervision from the University of Virginia.
Mrs. Ross has been the Henrico County Public Schools Preschool Specialist since July 2017. Prior to this appointment, she served as a Henrico County Public Schools Elementary Principal from 2009-2017.
Mrs. Ross brings expertise in Title grants, federal programs, Head Start, Virginia Preschool Initiative, instructional leadership, and early childhood education. Her skills include budgeting, audit preparation, grant writing, communication and collaboration, and family engagement.

Director of Elementary Education Announced for Caroline County Public Schools
Mrs. Terrie Haley was named the new Director of Elementary Education at the special called Caroline County School Board meeting on July 1, 2019.
Mrs. Haley graduated from Norfolk State University with her Bachelors of Arts Degree in English. She has a Master’s of Science Degree in Educational Leadership from Hood College.
Mrs. Haley has been principal at Madison Elementary School since July 2015. Prior to this appointment, she was an assistant principal at Caroline Middle School from 2013-2014 and assistant principal at Lewis and Clark Elementary School from 2014-2015.
Mrs. Haley’s instructional expertise, growth mindset, and strong professional demeanor will be assets in this role. Her knowledge and commitment to the division’s strategic plan, Pathways 2022, will focus Mrs. Haley’s work in this new position. Welcome!

Principal Announced for Madison Elementary School
Ms. Teresa Hicks was named the new Principal for Madison Elementary School at the special called Caroline County School Board meeting on July 1, 2019.
Ms. Hicks graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with her Bachelors of Science Degree in Elementary Education and a Masters of Education in Special Education. Ms. Hicks has an endorsement in Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia.
Prior to becoming Assistant Principal at Madison Elementary in 2015, Ms. Hicks served as a special education, kindergarten, and first grade teacher with Caroline County Public Schools. She was named Madison Elementary’s Teacher of the Year in 2001, 2002, and 2004.
Ms. Hicks begins her tenure as Principal with extensive knowledge of the Madison community: students, staff, parents, and business partners. Her extensive understanding of the “Mustang Way” will enable Ms. Hicks to continue the momentum that she has contributed to over the past three decades.

Principal Announced for Bowling Green Elementary School
Mrs. Cynthia Heckstall was named the new Principal of Bowling Green Elementary School at the special called Caroline County School Board meeting on July 1, 2019.
Mrs. Heckstall graduated from Fairmont State University with her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Elementary Education. She has a Master’s of Arts Degree in Curriculum and Instruction and an endorsement in Administration and Supervision from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Mrs. Heckstall has been a principal with Richmond City Public Schools since August 2016. Prior to this appointment, she was an assistant principal with Richmond City Public Schools for eight years. Her extensive instructional experience, strong understanding of social emotional learning, and strength in teacher retention and recruitment will be tremendous assets to the BGES school community.
Mrs. Heckstall will be providing opportunities for teachers and parents to meet and greet her, along with sharing her vision for the Bowling Green Elementary School community.
Mrs. Heckstall will begin her new position on July 2, 2019. Caroline County Public Schools welcomes Mrs. Cynthia Heckstall.
Dr. Joanne Jones Departure for New Position
Caroline County Public Schools wishes Dr. Joanne Jones well as she transitions at the end of July to Newport News Public Schools to serve as Executive Director of Curriculum and Development.
While serving as CCPS Director of Curriculum and Instruction since July 2016, Dr. Jones was instrumental in the success of the following curriculum and instructional initiatives: 6-12 Chromebook rollout, Math/History textbook adoptions, professional learning community implementation (PLCs), professional development planning/delivery, and Units of Study Writing Program selection/implementation.
We wish Dr. Jones well in this new endeavor. The former Director of Curriculum and Instruction position has been restructured to Director of Secondary Education for the 2019-2020 school year. We welcome Mrs. Karen Foster, former CMS Principal, to this position.
Director of Secondary Education Announced for Caroline County Public Schools
Mrs. Karen Foster was named the new Director of Secondary Education at the special called Caroline County School Board meeting on July 1, 2019.
Mrs. Foster graduated from James Madison University with both her Bachelors of Science and Master of Education degrees. Mrs. Foster has been the Principal at Caroline Middle School since June 2017. During this time, CMS achieved math SOL accreditation, increased achievement in reading, and decreased disciplinary infractions. As CMS Principal, Mrs. Foster also supported the 1:1 Chromebook initiative, offered numerous social emotional learning supports, and implemented the use of new history/math textbooks and the Units of Study writing program.
Prior to coming to Caroline, Mrs. Foster was the Principal and Assistant Principal of Post Oak Middle School in Spotsylvania. She also served in Stafford County for 15 years in a variety of positions, including a high school teacher, County Behavior Specialist, Assistant Principal, and as a Supervisor for Special Education at the Central Office level.
Mrs. Foster’s secondary expertise, instructional knowledge, and professionalism will be tremendous assets in this new role. Caroline County Public Schools welcomes Mrs. Karen Foster as the Director of Secondary Education
Mrs. Dolly Lindsay, Director of Instructional and Federal Programs Announces Retirement
Mrs. Dolly Lindsay announced her plans to retire from Caroline County Public Schools on July 1, 2019. Mrs. Lindsay served the students, staff, and families of Caroline County Public Schools for eighteen years. She has served as the Director of Instructional and Federal Programs for the past 11 years. Prior to serving in this capacity, Mrs. Lindsay served as principal at both Bowling Green Primary and Bowling Green Elementary and assistant principal at Caroline Middle School. Prior to her appointment with Caroline County Public Schools, she served as an administrator, student services coordinator, teacher consultant, department chairperson, and teacher at the elementary, middle, and high school levels in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Michigan, California, and Minnesota.
Mrs. Lindsay will retire with 18 years of employment with Caroline County Public Schools. Congratulations and thank you for your service.
