CCPS Plan for Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services

CCPS has received additional funding from the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) III act. The purpose of the funding is to help safely reopen and sustain the safe operation of schools and address the impacts of COVID-19 on the nation’s students by addressing students’ academic, social, emotional, and mental health needs. This plan describes how Caroline County Public Schools will maintain the health and safety of students, educators, and other school and division staff during and following the return to full in-person instruction.

Virginia Assessment Program Test Results for Students Grades 3-8

Caroline County Public Schools is pleased to inform you of a new method for you to receive your child’s Virginia Assessment Program test results.

The Virginia Assessment Parent Portal, located at, is a new web-based portal where you will create a user account and gain access to your test results for certain statewide assessments. Currently, this includes test results from the Fall 2021 Grades 3-8 Reading and Mathematics Growth Assessments that your child completed earlier in this school year.

A document entitled “Accessing Student Test Results in Parent Portal” will be emailed to you which includes directions and a student-specific claim code. After the parent account is created, the claim code enables you to access your child’s test results. If you do not receive an email, please contact your child’s school to have the information sent home.

Dr. Craig Reed Appointed As Director of Secondary Education

On Monday November 9, 2021, the Caroline County Public School Board named Dr. Craig Reed as the Director of Secondary Education. Dr. Reed has been an educator for 26 years, with eleven years of service in both middle and high school principalships. Dr. Reed will transition from his current role as principal of Peasley Middle School in Gloucester County to CCPS on December 1, 2021.

Dr. Reed’s extensive secondary experience is inclusive of both rural and urban academic settings. This  geographic diversity has also afforded Dr. Reed with the opportunity to lead in fully accredited environments, as well as schools immersed in the continuous school improvement (CSIP) process. To support enhanced achievement, Dr. Reed worked with faculty and staff to not only improve student academic success but to also create sustainable systems and processes supportive of all children. Dr. Reed believes that there are three characteristics that define excellence in leadership: leaders should be goal oriented, leaders should be data driven, and of the utmost importance – leaders must utilize shared or collaborative leadership.

Dr. Reed completed his doctoral studies at the College of William and Mary in March of 2020. Prior to his doctoral work, Dr. Reed received his B.A. degree from Hampton University in English, completed his teacher endorsement at Longwood University and received his M.Ed. in educational policy, planning and leadership from the College of William and Mary.  Caroline County Schools welcomes Dr. Reed as the Director of Secondary Education.
