New CHS Football Coach Hired

On January 10, 2022, the Caroline County School Board appointed Mr. Gerard Johnson as Caroline High School’s varsity football head coach. Mr.Johnson is a former All State, 2-time All Metro, Central District Player of the Year from Meadowbrook High School in Chester, Virginia. He started over twenty games in his collegiate career at Old Dominion and Norfolk State University and played professionally overseas in Italy, Finland, and Sweden.

Mr. Johnson is a graduate of Norfolk State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications. After graduation, Mr. Johnson served for several years as an assistant football coach for L.C. Bird in Chester, Virginia under his former high school coach, Troy Taylor. During this time, he also served as the team’s strength and conditioning coach. Currently, Mr. Johnson serves as a special education teacher and assistant basketball coach for Pottstown High School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. In addition, Mr. Johnson has been an assistant football coach at Owen Roberts HS in Pottstown for both the varsity and middle school football programs. 

Caroline County is excited to welcome Mr. Johnson, who will begin as a Caroline High School special education teacher and head varsity football coach on Tuesday, January 18.
