BETA State Title Winners

Hampton, Virginia Convention Center was invaded by Beta members from across the state on February 13th and 14th.  Caroline County Schools were well represented by students from Bowling Green Elementary, Lewis and Clark Elementary, and Madison Elementary.  Life experiences abounded as the students networked with peers, defended their knowledge in academic battles, flaunted their artistic talent, showcased their STEM skills, exemplified leadership, and exercised their right to vote.  Throughout the convention a state of on edge excitement could be felt running through the air.  Competition in the Tower of Power was intense.  Evelyn Payne recounted her experience when the whistle was blown at the one minute mark as the competition became even more exciting.  A sense of keen competition continued as Kassidee Day flat out stated, “Quiz Bowl is scary.”  It was an action packed couple of days.

Furthermore, students took this opportunity to reflect with a growth mindset.  When asked what they learned about themselves by participating in the State Convention Day responded, “I am in Beta to do more than I am capable of.” Payne reported, “I like working better in a team.  It is really nice to have the help, and really nice to make new friends.” William Casey summarized it best, “State Convention – it was thrilling, fun, very interesting, but sometimes nerve wracking.  Overall, the trip was worth it though.”

The students listed below have the honor of representing Caroline County at the National Beta Convention in Savannah, Georgia.
