Beauty and Barber

TRICKS OF THE TRADE:Collaborating within the division to give our high schoolers the opportunity to practice using their vocational skills while helping meet the needs of our elementary school students.

GWENDOLYN GREEN(an ISS Coordinator at CHS)TIA COURTNEY(a cosmetology teacher at CHS), andSOPHELIA ROLLINS(an ISS Coordinator at BGE), all came together to create a program called Beauty and Barber.  This program was developed to not only help elementary students feel good about themselves by providing free haircuts and styles once a week, but also to give high school students an opportunity to practice their cosmetology skills.  The program includes the collaboration of building principals for approval, teachers to identify students who can participate, transportation to get students from school to school, and students to cut and style the hair.

[Beauty and Barber originated with a non-profit organization called Colorless Missions that aims to help improve families through livelihood programs, providing school supplies, and support outreach programs.  They help to heal, restore, and build lasting relationships in the community through outreach, service projects, acts of kindness, and prayer.]
