Congratulations to the CMS Beta Club for their outstanding performance at the annual state convention in Virginia Beach this weekend. At the General Session on Friday night, Madison Gillespie sang the National Anthem and Courtney Clarke, Jessica Facer, Alexandra McCeney, Jada Smith, and Savannah Wise sang the Beta Club song to an audience of 1300.
The club competed in many academic, and arts/crafts competitions.
Sydney Brown was elected State chaplain and received first place in her campaign speech. Madison Gillespie, Rejon Hawkins and Alexis Mont performed in her campaign skit.
Alexis Mont placed first in the Speech competition and presented her speech, “The Heart of Beta ” during the awards ceremony on Saturday morning.
Connor Askew won first place in the Spelling Bee competition

Jade Campos received 2nd place for her pencil drawing
Ezra Adamek received 3rd place for his woodworking project
Katie Lloyd received 3rd place for Scrapbook
Raymond Radford placed 3rd in the Social Studies competition
Aaisha Gouveia placed 3rd in the Math competition
And the entire CMS Beta club received 3rd place in Songfest.
Winners at the state convention received an invitation to compete at the National Jr Beta Club Convention in Mobile, Alabama in June.

In honor of Black History month, CMS will have a program to recognize those individuals who made an impact on our lives from the past to the present. The program will be held on Wednesday, February 27th and will feature music, poetry, and dancing. Please come out and support our students and celebrate Black History month. 5th period – 6th grade, 11:19 am -12:18 pm
6th period – 7th grade, 12:19 pm- 1:18 pm
7th period – 8th grade, 1:19 pm – 2:20 pm

S.T.A.R.T. stands for Student Teacher Adademic Remediation Time and it gives students an opportunity to gain additional help after school and be more successful in the classroom environment. The Beta Club will travel to Virginia Beach, VA this weekend to compete in the National Jr. Beta Club annual state convention. Students and chaperones will leave on Friday, February 22nd at 8:00 a.m. and return on Saturday, February 23rd at 3:00 p.m. Parents will need to pick up their son/daughter from the CMS bus loop on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. Parents please be prompt; students will contact parents once they approach Richmond, VA.
