Principal’s Update

Dear Parents and Guardians:

I want to wish everyone a very happy New Year and start of the second semester.  During the 2017-2018 school year, Caroline Middle School celebrated many student successes and the growth.  On SOL assessments, we had a 4% increase in English achievement and students met or exceeded state standards in Math, Science and Civics.  While we continue to celebrate student growth, our goal is to meet all state standards and move from the status of Accredited with Conditions to Fully Accredited by the end of the 2018-19 school.  Our staff continues to be committed to providing quality instruction so students are able to be successful academically and socially. Likewise we are passionate about ensuring that our students have the literacy skills not only to meet state standards but to be prepared for their future whether they are employed, enlisted in a service branch or enrolled in post-secondary education after graduating high school.  Based upon second quarter benchmark assessments, we still have work to do and are working as a staff to increase the level of achievement for all students, but know we can’t do it alone.

As a result, we ask for your support the following ways:

  • Stay Informed (Check grades weekly using Parent Portal, ask to see what they are doing in class, visiting Schoology)
  • Encourage Success (By:  being prepared, completing assignments accurately and on time, following classroom and school rules)
  • Support  Regular Attendance (students who miss more than 17 days excused or unexcused are considered “chronically absent” by the Virginia Department of Education)
  • Give Us Feedback (emails, phone calls, parent meetings, surveys, etc.)

We know that ALL of our students can be successful and that we can meet all state standards of accreditation!  We appreciate the support you provide your child and our efforts.

Respectfully,
Karen F. Foster
