COVID-19 School Closure

Dear CCPS School Families,

Concern about COVID-19 (coronavirus) has created a rapidly evolving environment where changes are being made quickly in the interest of public health. In accordance with Governor Northam’s March 13, 2020 declaration ordering all K-12 schools to close for a minimum of 2 weeks, Caroline County Public Schools will be closed for students beginning Monday, March 16 – Friday, March 27. We will continue to monitor COVID-19 developments throughout the two-week closure and notify families as quickly as possible of any necessary changes. At this time, there is no plan to adjust the previously scheduled Spring Break (April 3-April 13).

Continuity of Instruction Plan

Our instructional team has been working diligently in preparation for a potential closing. Daily PK-12 activities in core content areas (math, language arts, history, science, CTE, Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment, and ASOL Special Education) have been developed to allow your child or children to review and reinforce content. Students will work on the various activities at a pace and time that works best for your family. These instructional activities will be available online at the CCPS website on Tuesday, March 17 at 12:00p.m. Paper copies are available for parent pickup, if needed, at your child’s school on Tuesday, March 17 from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. and Wednesday, March 18 from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Further information and directions associated with continuity of instruction activities will be emailed early next week.

Food Service Sites

Additionally, for many of our students, the meals provided at our schools are a crucial part of their daily nutrition. Additional plans are being made to address this vital need across the Caroline community. At this time, CCPS will begin providing “Grab and Go” breakfast and lunch meals on Tuesday, March 17 through Friday, March 27.

  • Bowling Green E.S., Lewis and Clark E.S., Madison E.S., and Caroline M.S. will serve as meal sites.
  • Any Caroline County child 18 and under is eligible for “Grab and Go” meals.
  • Meals will be prepared by the CCPS Food Services Department and served curbside from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
  • The parent/guardian (or alternate driver) must pull up to any of the four distribution sites to receive breakfast and lunch items for that day. Please note, the child(ren) must be in the vehicle to receive any meals.

Building and Transportation Deep Cleaning

Throughout the two-week closure, CCPS will conduct a deep cleaning of school buildings and buses utilizing EPA-approved cleaning products and practices.

During this unprecedented experience, we will continue to do everything possible to ensure the health and safety of our community. Please visit our website to view our “COVID-19” page for the latest information regarding the virus. Additionally, should you have any additional questions, please contact your child’s school. School offices will be open to the public on Monday, March 16 through Wednesday, March 18 (8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.). Be sure to stay close to your email for additional information as it becomes available.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this national pandemic.

Sincerely,
Sarah Calveric, Ph.D.
Superintendent
