Mrs. Elizabeth Flaherty, 4th grade teacher at Lewis and Clark ES, was randomly selected as one of this year’s two Virginia Lottery “Thank a Teacher” winners. For the fifth year, the Virginia Lottery encouraged students, parents and the general public to send thank-you notes to Virginia’s deserving public school teachers during National Teacher Appreciation Week, May 4 – 8. With both students and teachers working hard from home, this year parents and students could send digital thank-you notes to show their appreciation. The Virginia Lottery randomly selects two teachers each year to win a Virginia-themed vacation and $5,000 in supplies from The Supply Room for their school. Mrs. Flaherty is the first teacher winner announced!
On June 3, a surprise ZOOM meeting was coordinated with Virginia Lottery representatives, CCPS central office staff, LCES administration, and LCES 4th grade team to share this exciting news. Mrs. Flaherty was overwhelmed with excitement as she heard the news from Virginia Lottery Executive Director Kevin Hall.
In addition to the prizes from the Virginia Lottery and The Supply Room, First Lady of Virginia Mrs. Pamela Northam participated in the call to share her wishes and has invited all the incoming LCES 4th grade students and teachers to tour the Governor’s Mansion this coming school year. We are very proud of Mrs. Flaherty and all the students and parents who helped to make this happen.
