2nd Grade Explorers

Second grade students complete weekly challenges through a program called Young Explorers.  The challenge promoted having a growth mindset and thinking outside of the box.  This week students were challenged with cutting a hole in a piece of paper that is big enough for them to step through.

September is Attendance Awareness Month.

When students miss school, they miss out!

How do I know if my child is approaching chronic absenteeism?

Per a 180 day school calendar, think of the stoplight method:

Chronic Absences

18 or more days

Warning Signs

10 to 17 days

Satisfactory

9 or fewer absences

Attendance Counts.

The posted chronic absenteeism criteria have been established by the Virginia Department of Education. CCPS is working to make families aware of this new school accreditation criteria; however, the division is sensitive to how periods of illness, such as the flu, may necessitate absence.

First Grade is Moving

In first grade students exercise with Jack Hartmann while skip-counted by 2s, 5s, and 10s. This is a fun and energetic way to learn skip counting and release energy! The students love exercising and dancing in class while learning new math skills.
