September is Attendance Awareness Month

Here at Madison Elementary, we believe if YOU MISS SCHOOL…YOU MISS OUT. This means Game Over!  If your child is out of school for whatever reason, please send in a note from home with an explanation of the reason why your child was not in attendance. Remember if your child is not present, they miss valuable instructional time. social and emotional learning, as well as peer interactions.

MES recognizes September as Suicide Prevention Month

At Madison Elementary School, we would like to remind you that where there’s help, there’s hope.

According to the Virginia Department of Health and the Virginia Department of Education: Depression causes problems for your child, family, school and community. But with the right treatment, you could see dramatic improvement in your child’s life in just a very short time. As a parent, you play a crucial role in the early recognition and referral of your child who may be depressed, as well as with treatment. Knowing what to look for and what to do could mean the difference between life and death for your own child or one who is close to you. (2005)

If your child is experiencing symptoms of depression or making statements regarding self-harm, please reach out to your primary care physician, school counselor, or other community mental health professional.  You may also contact the Suicide Help Line at 1-800-273-TALK (273-8255). This line is open for adults, teens, and children.
