The high school’s Makerspace club is involved in a state-wide program that teaches students to refurbish surplus computer hardware from government agencies and private companies. The Virginia Student Training and Refurbishment Program, also known as VA STAR, allows Caroline County students to learn hands-on technical repair skills in an after-school setting.
Today, the club made a donation of 51 refurbished VA STAR computers! The machines came from FEMA via VA STAR without hard drives. The donation recipient independently raised $2,000 to purchase hard drives and other parts. Students spent many hours after school refurbishing the machines, installing new hard drives, and installing operating system software.
