Farm- Fresh Produce Arrives in School Cafeterias

School cafeterias across the CCPS have a new source of fresh vegetables on the menu. Through a partnership with Pleitez Produce Farm in King George County, students are now enjoying cucumbers, tomatoes, and other vegetables grown just a short distance from home.

In the past, many of the same items traveled thousands of miles before reaching our kitchens. Tomatoes often came from California, and cucumbers were shipped from Florida. Now those same foods are being grown and delivered locally, often within days of harvest.

Pleitez Produce Farm operates more than 100 acres and 15 greenhouses, giving them the ability to supply fresh produce throughout the year. The first deliveries have already arrived, bringing crisp, colorful vegetables straight from the farm to our cafeterias.

This partnership is about more than food. By working with a local grower, our district is supporting the regional economy and strengthening connections between agriculture and education.
