Readiness for Forecasted Inclement Weather (Asynchronous Learning)

Clock with Preparation

Dear CCPS Families,

Our weather team is actively monitoring the weather forecast for the weekend ahead.   Currently, reports show the potential for significant snow/ice accumulation and frigid temperatures.  With winter only two months underway and the need to protect the VDOE required instructional hours (990), CCPS is preparing to implement the state authorized use of unscheduled asynchronous learning days.

Should the anticipated inclement weather require a school closure(s) next week, CCPS will be prepared to implement up to two asynchronous learning days.  Asynchronous Learning Days enable students to work on assignments at home at their own pace.  This method allows learning to continue using materials provided in advance by your child’s school/teacher(s). Additionally, meals are provided to every child when unscheduled asynchronous learning days are used. Should the likelihood of this winter storm remain high, CCPS will distribute two days of student meals during school on Friday, January 23, 2026.

CCPS will monitor the weather throughout the weekend and will send more information home to families regarding any type of inclement weather closure or asynchronous learning day.

We are grateful to have had such advanced awareness of this pending storm, as it has enabled our CCPS team to develop a proactive plan to minimize instructional calendar impact associated with this weekend’s potential weather.

Thank you,

Dr. Sarah Calveric

Superintendent
