Caroline County to Open Emergency Shelter at Caroline High School
MILFORD, VA — Caroline County officials announce the opening of an emergency shelter beginning at 8:00 PM on Saturday, January 24, 2026, in response to winter storm conditions impacting the community.
The shelter will be located at:
Caroline High School Gymnasium
19155 Rogers Clark Boulevard
Milford, VA 22514
This shelter will operate with limited resources. Residents who choose to seek shelter are strongly encouraged to be as self-sufficient as possible and bring essential personal supplies, including but not limited to:
- Bedding (pillows, blankets, sleeping bags, etc.)
- Medications and medical necessities to include oxygen machines / supplies. Shelter staff / Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) cannot top off oxygen tanks
- Bring your own food to include any special dietary foods
- Baby food, formula, and supplies
- Phone chargers with cords and personal electronics with earbuds
- Personal hygiene items
- Battery powered flashlight
- Cards, small toys, etc. for children
Alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, or weapons are not allowed. Smoking is not allowed in shelters.
County officials emphasize that this shelter is intended to provide temporary refuge and may not be able to accommodate all personal needs. Household pets are prohibited at the shelter; however, service animals will be admitted.
