Attention: 2024 Seniors Wanting To Teach STEM

Are you attending Germanna or UMW in the Fall?  Do you want to teach Stem?

The  Noyce Scholar through the University of Mary Washington’s (UMW) DISCOVER program may be for you.Funded by the National Science Foundation, this program provides an innovative teacher preparation program and substantial financial support for students aspiring to teach in a STEM discipline at the secondary (grades 6-12) level.

  • Who: Students interested in seeking a Virginia teaching license in one of these secondary disciplines: Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth & Environmental Science, Mathematics, or Physics and are currently high school seniors or in their freshman or sophomore year at UMW or Germanna Community College (GCC).
  • What: Scholarships providing $24,000 in academic support during the junior year and $24,000 during the senior year at UMW. For each year of support the recipient must commit to teaching two years in a high-need public school.
  • Where: Students can complete their first two years at either UMW or GCC and then complete their final two years at UMW.
  • When: 18 total DISCOVER Scholars will be selected for funding over the course of next three years.
